New Balance Advertisement (SFX & Music)

For this project, I created the sound design for an advertisement by combining music and sound effects to match the visuals and enhance the mood of each scene. I started by selecting different sound effects such as fireplace crackling, footsteps, snare hits, soil kicks, plastic textures, twinkling sounds and plant-growing effects. I also selected several music tracks to create a chilled and relaxed atmosphere that matched the slow-motion visuals.

I layered the music and sound effects separately so that I could control each element more easily during the mixing process. I used EQ to reduce the high frequencies of the footsteps, making them sound deeper and heavier. I also used pitch shifting on the snare to create a deeper footstep impact, followed by reverb to make the sound feel more natural.

To make the sound design more dynamic, I used panning to move certain sounds from left to right. For example, I used panning on the plant-growing effect to make it feel as though the sound was spreading across the space. I also used panning on the lightning effect to create the impression that the lightning was striking from different directions. Volume automation and fades were also used to create smoother transitions and control the balance between the different tracks.

For the final mix, I used busses and reverb to help create a sense of space. I adjusted the reverb settings differently for the footsteps and lightning to make each sound fit its intended environment. I then checked the final loudness using the loudness meter before exporting the project as an MP4 file through Adobe Media Encoder.

Overall, this project helped me understand how different sound design and mixing techniques can be combined to support the visuals, create atmosphere and make individual moments feel more impactful.
